YOUNG WOMEN’S PROGRAMS
Please visit Program Dates to find out when the next one is being held.
We run a 2 week residential program for young women (16-25 years) who are survivors of childhood abuse and/or trauma. You will stay in either Hennessy or Phillip House and there is a maximum of 8 guests per program.
It provides the opportunity to start to heal from your childhood trauma or abuse in a supportive environment so the effects no longer dominate your life. You may be experiencing or have previously experienced
- Alcohol and/or drug use
- Decreased ability to concentrate, feeling overwhelmed
- Suicidal thoughts
- Irritability, anger and resentment
- Wanting to harm yourself
- Feeling worthless
- Emotional numbness
- Eating Disorders
- Dysfunctional relationships
- Low self-esteem
- Self-destructive and/or impulsive behaviour
- Trust issues
At Heal For Life, we have all suffered from child abuse or trauma and are very keen to help young people. Most of us only received help much later in our lives.
You will find that being with a group of young people who just like you are having problems because of what has happened is very validating. To discover that each one of them is just like you, a terrific young person also suffering from so much inaccurate judgement is very empowering.
The peer support volunteers are all survivors of child abuse, many of them are young and every one of us has also completed a heal for life program. Our team have studied with us and also worked sufficiently on their own healing journey so they feel ready to help others. Many of us are currently studying to be counsellors or psychologists at University whilst volunteering.
We firmly believe behaviour is a result of trauma, as are addictions, depression, anxiety and the vast majority of mental illnesses. We have also proved, with independent research, that if we address our childhood trauma, we also heal from the effects of mental illness.
Did you know that 92% of heroin addicts and 94% of amphetamine users have suffered from trauma? Or that 81-86% of people suffering from Bi-polar disorder were abused as children?
What does it cost?

Youth Express was recently given the opportunity to refer two young ladies from local high schools in the Hunter, who had experienced child hood trauma to your program.
The two students chosen both came from broken families and were disengaging from education.
Some of the statements the students made were;
“Amazing”, “I didn’t want to leave”, “Can I go back next year?”, “I feel so much better within myself”, “my friends and family have noticed I handle situations so much better”.
…….thank you for bringing them alive again and therefore creating a more open and trusting relationships with their loved ones.
